I think most of you are familiar with these kinds of\u00a0plans by now. Typically, the patient will pay a fee\u00a0from $199 to $300 per year, which will include two\u00a0regular checkups (and x-rays, fluorides, whatever is\u00a0needed) and 15%-20% off additional treatment.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s been my experience that these plans really help\u00a0encourage patients to return regularly for recall and to\u00a0go ahead with treatment. We are gathering the data on\u00a0this now, but it\u2019s not unusual to see practice\u00a0production per patient increase by 50% or even double\u00a0for patients on these plans.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s sort of a \u201cCostco Effect.\u201d If you have a\u00a0membership, when you go there, you want to get lots\u00a0of stuff because it is such a deal.\u00a0I also think it is a good idea because it is equitable.\u00a0We give insurance patients a break (in effect) and\u00a0there is paperwork and lots of hassles involved with\u00a0that, waiting periods, limitations, exclusions, etc. Why\u00a0not give patients without the benefit of insurance a\u00a0benefit?<\/p>\n
Moreover, some patients through the MNSure site are\u00a0coming up with plans that pay very low for us and have\u00a0many limitations and so are not a good deal. At least\u00a0you can give the patients in these situations an\u00a0alternative to buying a plan online that has a very lowfee schedule for you.<\/p>\n
These plans are easier to administer than insurance. If\u00a0you have a plan or are setting up a plan, I can help you\u00a0line things up so you can track them closely.<\/p>\n
